Piggly Wiggly

Piggly Wiggly was founded in 1916, in Memphis, Tennessee, by the American entrepreneur Clarence Saunders. It was the first true self-service grocery store, a concept patente by Saunders in 1917 because customers could choose their products directly, so packaging and brand recognition became very important.

First Nuclear Explosion (test).. ..
Posted August 28th by admin in Military, firsts

Trinity was the code name of the first nuclear weapons test of an atomic bomb. This test was conducted by the United States Army on July 16, 1945, in the Jornada del Muerto desert, New Mexico. This experimental nuclear blast was the precursor (test) to the nuclear travesty on Japan. The gates of Hell were opened and everything changed.

Match vs Matches
Posted August 28th by admin in advertisment, firsts

The earliest known commercial advertising on matchbooks was whimsically created in 1895 and distributed with the compliments of the Mendelson Opera Company. The ad from the only surviving example of this early commercial pursuit read, “A cyclone of fun – powerful caste – pretty girls – handsome ward-robe – get seats early.” On the front appeared a pasted-on photo of the star of this comic organization, Thomas Lowden, a trombonist immortalized with the edict “America’s Youngest Operatic Comedian.”

The Film Dumbo is the only Disney animated feature film that has a title character who doesn’t speak a single word throughout the film. The Production costs of Dumbo was $813,000 (making it the least expensive of all Disney’s animated features), and it grossed over $2.5 million in its original release (more than Pinocchio’s and Fantasia’s original grosses combined). Of all the films made by Walt Disney this was Walt’s favorite film made by his studios and Dumbo and Snow White are the only classic Disney films to use watercolored backgrounds. Also Note: This was the first Walt Disney Animated Classic released on videocassette.

The Rocking Chair.. .
Posted August 28th by admin in Furniture

Though some stories attribute its invention to Benjamin Franklin, no historical evidence can prove them right. Historians can only trace the rocking chair’s origins to North America during the early 18th century. They were originally used in gardens and were just ordinary chairs with two rockers at their bottoms. It was in 1725 that early rocking chairs first appeared in England. .I cannot think of a better invention to date. Sitting and Rocking is the definition of relax. Finding the perfect rocking chair is like finding the beyond perfect pair of shoes..except this is for your entire body. Rock on.

Original Snakes and Ladders.. . .
Posted March 17th by admin in Games

All games have morals; and the game of Snakes and Ladders captures, as no other activity can hope to do, the eternal truth that for every ladder you hope to climb, a snake is waiting just around the corner, and for every snake a ladder will compensate. But it’s more than that; no mere carrot-and-stick affair; because implicit in the game is unchanging twoness of things, the duality of up against down, good against evil; the solid rationality of ladders balances the occult sinuosities of the serpent; in the opposition of staircase and cobra we can see, metaphorically, all conceivable oppositions, Alpha against Omega, father against mother.[5]

This is by far one of my favorite songs of all time. The track is called Life on the Line by FAD GADGET.
LYRICS: I’m sorry about the mess on the table I’m sure it was an accident My hands are made of nitroglycerin
That explains the incident Fortune built my homes in daydreams Pages I’d never seen
I’m sorry you were so disappointed The contract states quite fundamentally
The undersigned is you Lay your life on the line No questions. . .. .
(Life on the line) That’s fine. . (Life) Just sign on the dotted line
The nib hesitates at the inkwell A sample of the poet’s blood Guitars pluck a tune in the ozone
But me, I’m just stuck in the mud Fortune left my hopes in daydreams Pages I’d never seen
I’m sorry you were so disappointed The contract states quite fundamentally
The undersigned is you Lay your life on the line No questions. . . . (Life on the line) That’s fine. . . .(Life)..

Corn Dog Man the Movie… . . . . . <
Posted November 19th by admin in Military

The corn dog was invented by Neil Fletcher in 1942 for the Texas State Fair. These hot dogs dipped in corn batter, deep fried and served on a stick have been a favorite of fair goers ever since.

—-if you see this post . . . .pls comment on if you like cornodgs or not o=r if that movie had sumthing to do with it?!?!?><>CORN<>DOG> HTML?????JAVASCRIPT??LOGIN?admin??674849340987653333>3Rd..P@Rty33SpAMM#RZ.

The movie consists of an unseen man calling up a boat salesmen and repeatedly harassing him. Many of the reviews on IMDb fault this repetitive structure, and I have to admit that it did seem like at some point the guy would just stop answering the phone. I think the reason why it worked for me is that the actor playing the elderly man seemed so much like people I’ve known. Any time you have some men get together in a small town, you’re likely to meet someone like this guy–at the bar, at the Knights of Columbus hall, or at the local diner. This could be an instructional video for someone who’s never been to America on what to expect.

The story brings in some incidents of racism and its consequences, but for me it wasn’t so much the story as just the dialog that kept me interested. This is one I would watch over again, and one I would want my friends to see. That puts it up to at least an 8 for me.

Original California Flag.. .. .
Posted November 6th by admin in CA History

This was officially the “last” flag of the California Republic. It was created by William Todd, a nephew of Mary Todd, the wife of Abraham Lincoln. Todd stated that the star and bear were painted using red paint and “vineberry” juice mixed with brick dust, which made for a faded-reddish tone. The wording was drawn in black India ink, including a period erroneously placed between the “I” and “C.” (see enlargement) This mistake allowed him to positively identify the flag years later for the Pioneer’s Society.

Hand Drawn One Dollar Bill.. . .
Posted November 6th by admin in Good Art

J.S.G. Boggs has spent over $250,000 in hand-drawn variations on the local currency wherever he is based. After eating a meal, selecting an item, or receiving a service, he attempts to exchange his hand-made bills for goods and services that he wishes to purchase. Each transaction requires the recipient to consider whether his art is desirable enough to replace the money that they may then have to spend out of their own pocket in order to acquire Boggs’ work. There is a further component to the transaction when collectors of Boggs’ work have to personally negotiate with the owners of the bills in order to acquire his pieces. If someone buys this work outright, Boggs also includes the change he gets back, his purchase receipt and other ephemera from the transaction.
Though there is always a clear disclosure that he is exchanging art for goods and services, Boggs has repeatedly been arrested for counterfeiting in the USA and abroad. The U.S. Secret Service has raided his home and confiscated much of his artwork but he has never been formally charged.

It is caused by thermal radiation from the flash of the initial explosion. Since the light travels from a central point it burns everything directly in its path but if its path is interrupted by something (a person/object) the area shielded from the light will be left relatively untouched. These burns can happen miles and miles away from the explosion in areas otherwise unaffected by the bomb.
